Adolescent medicine is defined as medicine relating to teens or adolescent age group between 9 years to 21years.

Various hormonal changes due to upsurge of estrogen and progesterone cause physical and mental changes.

There are issues specific to this age group and which need to be addressed such as:

  • Menstrual hygiene
  • Contraception
  • Cervical cancer vaccination
  • Self breast examination

Adolescent medicine counseling involves an array of topics especially to young females in order to make them comfortable with the pubertal changes. A lot of schools have a practice of regularly calling gynecologists to facilitate the same. Cervical cancer vaccination is best initiated in schools in campaigns since it is not yet included in national immunization schedule. Dr. Ruchi Tandon is well trained and experienced gynecologist specialist in south Delhi.
