Menopause
Menopause is a time period of cessation of menses. Indian menopausal age is usually 48-52 yrs. It involves a series of changes related to gradual decline of estrogen.
These include as:
- Hot flashes
- Mood swings
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Backache & joint pains
- Mimics cardiac symptoms
Usually these changes are physiological, however,in case of exacerbation, they may warrant symptomatic investigations and treatment. The biochemical diagnosis is made by measuring the FSH and LH levels which are altered significantly. Bone densitometry is also done which indicates the condition of bones ,as they are prone to osteoporosis. Because of the decrease of
hormones, vaginal pH gets altered, causing senile vaginitis. Menopause also causes psychological changes in a woman and should be supported with adequate support.
